FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Making a decision to study overseas can be quite a challenge. Here are the answers to some of the most common questions that will help you enjoy your time at WOLBI Jeju
How many hours are we in class? Are there days off?
In 50 minute lecture-10 minute breaks, classes normally run from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm (and the occasional 2:30-3:20 pm afternoon class depending on the schedule). Classes are held from Tuesday to Friday with Saturday, Sunday and Monday being days off.
What happens on days when there are no classes (Sat, Sun, Mon)?
Jeju Island has about 400 churches, and WOLBI Jeju has partnerships with several churches close to the campus, both Korean and International. On Sundays, students attend some of these local churches and can participate in youth and children's ministry, music, English ministry, Bible studies, and more. Students are assigned a local church for the year with a team of other students and staff to do ministry together. Sunday lunch is eaten off campus, and students normally use the remainder of their Sunday to rest.
Mondays are used to make trips to the city, go for a walk or enjoy outdoor activities, visit cafés near campus, relax or do extra study or homework!

Saturdays are similar to Mondays, but usually once a month, WOLBI students will host and lead a day-camp event for local middle and high school students called Momentum. This normally begins at 2:00 p.m. with a high-power outdoor activity, concluding with an evening meal and a service with games, drama, music, message with apologetics themes ending around 8:30 p.m.

Will my credits transfer?
We are accredited by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools, an institutional accrediting body, so our credits transfer to most Christian universities and colleges. Click here to see a copy of our college transfer chart which lists schools who offer special scholarships for graduates of Word of Life Bible Institute.
What kinds of transportation are available?
Official transportation of student arrivals and departures are provided by WOLBI and extra trips to Jeju city are available by taxi. WOLBI also provides regular trips (generally twice a week) to the city for shopping (E-mart, Daiso, Lotte Mart, and more) with a small fee. Transportation is also provided to church on Sundays.
Will I need to bring specific personal items with me?
Some students that graduate in the previous year leave behind used items. There is also a small yard sale at the beginning of the year for new students that arrive on campus. While many things can be bought on the island, some things available at WOLBI are:

* some desk supplies
* bathroom/laundry supplies
* cups, mugs, containers

While internet use is limited to certain times and areas and mobile phones are not allowed in dorms, laptops will come in very handy for writing book reports, essays and various other assignments. Printers and photocopiers are available on campus. A USB flash drive and a calendar/scheduler of some sort are also helpful items to bring. Stationery items like binders, folders, notes, scotch tape, erasers, pens can all be purchased on the island. Bedding (sheets, pillow, blanket) is also not provided, but can readily be purchased at nearby stores like E-mart.

Your admissions counselor can also give you more details on what you need to bring with you and what can be bought easily on Jeju!
What leadership opportunities are there for me as a student?
Students are actively involved with the upkeep of the campus and various local ministries. Some of the roles as a student may be:
* Work team captain (Food prep, Bakery, Housekeeping, Tech-team, Maintenance)
* Ministry team leader (Local church, Momentum, Camp team, International ministry)
* Dorm Discipleship Assistant (DA)
* Praise team member
* Study group leader / tutor
What is Jeju Island like in general?
Jeju island is essentially a honeymooning tourist island complete with palm trees and dozens of beaches. While the WOLBI campus itself is situated among quiet forests and farmland, there are many museums, coffee shops and interesting places to visit all around the island, even a few within walking distance of campus. WOLBI Jeju is about 15 minutes away from the ocean by car. It takes an average 4 hours to make a complete circle around Jeju island by car. With a population of approximately 700,000, it is also a popular travel destination among Chinese and Japanese tourists. There are many fine restaurants and famous franchises like Mcdonald's, Burger King, KFC, Starbucks, and Domino's pizzas on Jeju island, but Jeju is most famous for its Black Pig Samgyupsal (Korean-style barbeque).
What does the weather look like on Jeju Island?
Jeju island has a humid subtropical climate, warmer than that of the rest of Korea, with four distinct seasons. Winters are cool and dry while summers are hot, humid and sometimes rainy. Summer weather is an average of 24°C - 30°C (75°F - 86°F). Winter weather is an average of 3°C - 12°C (37°F - 54°F).
What is the food like on campus?
We have two cooks: One is the western cuisine chef, and one is the Korean/Asian cuisine chef.
Breakfasts are western (which is mainly American but may include Mexican and European) style. Each morning there are fresh baked goods for breakfast, along with other options such as cereal, granola, fruit, toast, juice and milk. Lunches and dinners are half western style and half Asian style. “Asian” style includes Korean, Japanese and Chinese food. We normally have Korean, Japanese and Taiwanese students so there is a rotation of each style of food. There is also a fresh salad bar at each lunch and dinner.
WOLBI Jeju is a place where truly east meets west. Everyone at WOLBI Jeju gets the chance to "taste" another culture and expand their eating palettes. While that sounds exciting at first, there are times when we all just want to eat what is comfortable to us. To help with this, for the Asian students, rice is normally served at least once each day and Korean kimchi is served at most lunches and dinners. For the western students, bread, peanut butter, and jelly are served at all meals. Students can also enjoy snacks and ramen from our snack shack!
